Minocycline

There are times when you may be prescribed a medication that can be used for a variety of purposes. Sometimes, it has to do with the way the medication affects your body, which is why it may be able to help with the symptoms of diseases that don't necessarily seem to be connected with each other. One of the medications that may be provided is minocycline, a type of antibiotic drug that can be used for a number of different types of infections. Your doctor will prescribe it if he feels it is the best choice for your condition.
Although minocycline is provided to help reduce infections because it is an antibiotic, it can also be prescribed for a number of other reasons. Some doctors may give it to treat severe acne and there may be other conditions that can be treated with it as well. As a tetracycline antibiotic, this drug stops the growth of bacteria in the body, helping to reduce how the infection is growing. It can be effective at treating a bacterial infection but it is not going to be given for any type of viral infection, including the flu or common cold.

Dr. Lavery will give you additional information on how you can use minocycline in order to gain the most benefit from it. Typically, the drug is taken on an empty stomach and you may need to take it every 12 hours with a full glass of water. You also need to be cautious about any side effects that may occur, such as an upset stomach. If that is the case, you may be giving further instruction to take it with a little food or some milk but you should always talk to your doctor or the pharmacist when you do so. Don't lie down for 10 minutes after taking the drug, which is why you should not take it right before you go to sleep.

In order to provide you with the most benefits from using minocycline, Dr. Lavery will talk to you about the proper use. Make sure that you take it according to his instructions and continue to take the full course of medication. Otherwise, the infection may continue to be a problem.
